The United Nations Human Rights Council has been asked to intervene to stop the human rights violations and genocide being carried out to eliminate the Baloch population in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. Baloch movement leader Mahan Baloch has made this demand to the commission and the international community.
United Nations should pay attention to the atrocities of the Pakistani government
In a post on X, Mahan has requested the council to take cognizance of the suppression of human rights in Balochistan. He has also appealed to the international community to pay attention to the atrocities of the Pakistani government on the population of Balochistan and provide relief from them.
It has been said that in Balochistan, people are illegally picked up from homes and streets. They are kept in indefinite captivity or killed without telling them the crime. Hundreds of innocent people have gone missing in this way in the past decades. During this time, many Baloch youth have also been killed in fake encounters and their bullet-riddled bodies have been sent to the family.
Mahrang Baloch is being tortured in jail
The family of Baloch activist Mahrang Baloch, who is lodged in a Pakistani jail, has expressed serious concern over the torture he is facing. Mahrang’s sister Nadia Baloch has said in an X post that when she went to the jail with her mother to meet Mahrang, they were made to wait for eight hours. After this, they were allowed to talk to Mahrang for a few minutes through a thick glass window via telephone.
Nadia has said that despite the clear order of the High Court, she was not allowed to meet Mahrang Baloch face-to-face. Mahrang’s family went to the jail to meet him after getting information about his illness. Nadia has demanded justice for Mahrang.
