In the match played on Saturday, Punjab Kings won the toss and batted first and scored a big score of 245. Shreyas Iyer batted brilliantly with 82 runs in 36 balls. But while chasing the target, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head attacked the Punjab bowlers, both of them added 171 runs for the first wicket. Abhishek played a historic innings of 141 runs, due to which Sunrisers Hyderabad won by 8 wickets with 9 balls to spare.
After the match, Shreyas Iyer told where the team lagged behind and why it lost. Iyer said, “It was a great score. The way they won chasing the target with two overs (9 balls) to spare, I am laughing”
Where did PBKS go wrong?
Shreyas Iyer said, “We could have taken two excellent catches. Abhishek Sharma was a bit lucky as well, although he played a great innings. Catches win you the match and we fell behind there. We did not bowl well, but we have to get back on the driving board. The way he hit the ball and made the opening partnership was brilliant. The rotation could have been a bit better from my side.”
On Lockie’s injury, Iyer said, “It had a big impact. He is a player who can get you wickets immediately. It was a big blow. He is a bowler who bowls at a speed of 140 all the time. The other bowlers are also there to win the match. So no excuses. When we discussed there, we felt that 230 is a good score. It was one of the best innings I have seen in the IPL.”
Abhishek Sharma played a record innings
Abhishek and Travis Head made the target of 246 look modest, both added 171 runs for the first wicket. When Head was out, the score of Sunrisers Hyderabad was 171 runs in 12.2 overs. Even after this, Abhishek’s stormy innings continued, he completed his century in 40 balls. He played a historic innings of 141 runs in 55 balls, this is the highest individual innings by an Indian batsman in IPL history.
