India were held to a 1-1 draw by Bangladesh in the opening match of the SAFF Football Championship on Monday.

In this match played at the National Football Stadium, captain Sunil Chhetri gave India the lead in the 27th minute of the first half. Soon after the start of the second half, Biswanath Ghosh had to go out and Bangladesh played with 10 players after that. Yesen Arafat scored the equalizer in the 74th minute. But after that neither of the two teams could score the winning goal and the match ended in a draw.
