A heart-wrenching news has come from the capital. A student of a private college shot himself late last evening in Premnagar police station area. The injured student has been admitted to the hospital in a critical condition, where his condition remains critical. This incident has not only raised questions on the security system of educational institutions, but has also raised questions on the functioning of Dehradun Police.

Jharkhand resident student attempted suicide in Dehradun

According to the information, the injured student has been identified as Shashi Shekhar (20), who is a resident of Jharkhand and is a BSc Agriculture second year student in a private college located in Premnagar, Dehradun. It is being told that Shashi lived in a rented room with his two friends. Late Wednesday evening, he shot himself in the head with a pistol. The student was alone in the room at the time of the incident.

Where did the student get the weapon in the room from?

Hearing the sound of gunshot, people nearby reached the spot and informed the police about the incident. Injured Shashi was hurriedly admitted to Doon Hospital. The condition of the youth is said to be critical. It is not clear yet how Shashi got the pistol from. The police is investigating the matter and is looking for the reasons for the suicide.

Weapons have been found with students from outside states earlier too

Let us tell you that this is not the first incident when weapons have been found with students from outside states in Dehradun. The activities of many students living in private hostels, PGs and rented rooms have been in controversies earlier too. Many students have been caught in the past in cases like chain snatching, factionalism and brandishing weapons. Despite this, the police has not conducted a major search operation in any college hostel, PG or private hostels till date.

When will the police conduct a search operation?

This negligence of the Doon Police is like inviting a big danger. After this incident of April 16, it is clear that access to weapons is becoming very easy among the students. Now the time has come for the police to start a thorough search operation of students living in private hostels and PGs, so that any major mishap can be avoided in the future.
