Uttarakhand: Amidst the Waqf Bill, now there is politics over BKTC’s property, Congress MLA raised questions, got the answer

b
While there are discussions going on all over the country about the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 brought for the management of Waqf properties, on the other hand, Congress leaders are now raising questions on the intentions of the BJP. In this episode, Congress leader Qazi Nizamuddin has raised questions. He says that the way BJP is worrying about Waqf properties, is it also worried about the lands of all the prestigious institutions of Hindus being encroached or not?
In fact, Mangalore MLA Qazi Nizamuddin has issued a statement. He has raised questions about the property of Badri Kedar Temple Committee (BKTC). Along with that, he has surrounded the government. However, the CEO of the committee, Vijay Thapliyal, has answered these questions.
Reaction on BKTC property
Badri Kedar Temple Committee has 50 bighas of land worth billions in Dehradun. Apart from this, the properties of Badri Kedar Temple Committee are spread in Ramnagar, Charbagh, Aminabad of Lucknow to Nepal. When the BJP government is showing so much concern about the Waqf properties, then they hope that the government will also be concerned about these properties of Badri Kedar Temple Committee.
- Qazi Nizamuddin, Congress MLA, Mangalore –
Despite being a double engine government, BKTC land could not be brought under its control: Congress MLA Qazi Nizamuddin alleged that Badri-Kedar Temple Committee has occupied land worth lakhs of crores, but despite being a double engine government, Badri-Kedar Temple Committee has not been able to bring these lands under its control. Till now, BJP has not taken even a single step forward in the matter of Badri Kedar Temple Committee’s properties.
Raising the question, Congress MLA Qazi Nizamuddin from Mangalore further said that-
Why is the bulldozer not run on the illegal occupation of Badri Kedar Temple Committee (BKTC) lands? If the matter is in the court, then why are these cases being pursued properly? It will be a very pleasant experience for the whole country and the world, if BJP succeeds in making the properties of Badri Kedar Temple Committee encroachment free.

There is no dispute of any kind on the properties of Badri Kedar Temple Committee. The temple committee is constantly vigilant about its lands. Wherever the land of the temple committee is present, its complete management is being done by the temple committee. However, at some places, land disputes are going on in the court, which will be settled soon.
- Vijay Thapliyal, CEO, Badri Kedar Temple Committee –
BKTC manages 51 other temples along with Badrinath-Kedarnath: Let us tell you that, out of the four Dhams present in Uttarakhand, the management of two important Dhams Badrinath and Kedarnath along with 51 other temples is also under Badri Kedar Temple Committee (Shri Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee). At present, the post of President of Badri Kedar Temple Committee is vacant. Till now Ajendra Ajay was handling the responsibility as BKTC President, whose term has been completed.
At the same time, BJP State Vice President and senior leader Jyoti Prasad Gairola gave his reaction on the questions of Congress MLA Qazi Nizamuddin regarding the properties of Badri Kedar Temple Committee. In which he has answered by taking a dig at MLA Qazi Nizamuddin.
I think Qazi Nizamuddin has not read the Waqf Board Amendment Bill properly. The BJP’s Modi government has amended the Waqf Board’s property so that it can be used for the benefit of the Pasmandas and poor Muslims. Certainly, wherever such encroachments take place, the government is keeping an eye on it. The government will take action on it.
- Jyoti Prasad Gairola, BJP State Vice President –
The Waqf Amendment Act has been challenged in the Supreme Court: Let us tell you that the Waqf Amendment Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on 2 April. After that, this bill was also passed by the Rajya Sabha on 3 April. Then President Draupadi Murmu approved the bill. After which this bill became the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, but the matter went to the Supreme Court.
On which a bench of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice KV Vishwanathan heard today i.e. on 16 April. Today the bench heard the petitions challenging the constitutional validity. The court will also hear this matter tomorrow i.e. on 17 April.
