In view of the persistent bad weather in Jammu and Kashmir and the weather department forecast, it has been decided to suspend classes for a day on April 21 in all schools in the valley. This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure keeping in mind the safety and well-being of the students.
School and Higher Education Minister Sakina Itoo gave this information by tweeting on social media platform X. She wrote, ‘In view of the continuous bad weather conditions and forecast, classes will be suspended for one day tomorrow (April 21) in all the schools of the valley. This decision has been taken to ensure the safety of all the students.’ Officials have appealed to parents and students to keep an eye on the weather conditions and follow the safety guidelines.
Heavy rain wreaked havoc in a few hours
Heavy rain has wreaked havoc in some areas of Jammu and Kashmir due to western disturbance. Along with rain from the sky, hail and strong winds have damaged crops like mango, wheat etc. Some areas have been more affected by heavy rain in the last twenty-four hours. More than 75 mm of rain has occurred in Banihal area. Ramban also received up to 60 mm of rain within two hours. Life was disrupted due to rain in some areas of North and South Kashmir as well.
According to the Meteorological Center Srinagar, there may be rain in some parts of the state on Monday. But most of the upcoming weather will be clear, which will increase the heat. The change in weather has had a greater effect on the areas adjoining Kashmir and Banihal. In the last 24 hours, 54.6 mm of rain has fallen in Qazigund. Similarly, 43.9 mm rain has fallen in Kokernag, 34.2 mm in the world famous tourist place Pahalgam, 25.4 mm in Gulmarg, 12.4 mm in Srinagar and 6.2 mm in Kupwara. 9.0 mm rain fell in Batot, 2.0 mm in Katra, 15.4 mm in Bhaderwah.

In Jammu, there was thundering of clouds in the evening along with sunshine. But there was no relief from the heat. Here the day’s mercury rose by 2.3 degrees from normal to 35.4 and the minimum temperature was recorded at 26.2 degrees Celsius. Hailstorm occurred in Mishriwala. Hailstorm along with rain also occurred in the hilly areas of Rajori. The maximum temperature was recorded at 19.4 in Banihal, 16.6 in Batote, 30.6 in Katra and 17.6 degrees Celsius in Bhaderwah. The day temperature in the capital Srinagar was 21.4 and the minimum temperature was 8.0 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature was recorded at 18.2 in Pahalgam and 12.0 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg.
