The person we are talking about is Sir George Everest. Today is also his birthday. Born on July 4 in the UK, Sir George Everest came to India in 1806. He stayed in Mussoorie and discovered many high peaks of the world. Mount Everest also got its name from Sir George Everest. Earlier Mount Everest was called Peak 15. Sir George Everest was the first to tell the correct height and location of Everest. Due to which, on the recommendation of British surveyor Andrew Waugh, this peak was named after him in 1865.

Sir George Everest was also related to George Everest mountain of Dehradun. Sir George Everest spent most of his life in George Everest of Mussoorie. His survey team used to take measurements of many high peaks of India from George Everest of Mussoorie and locate them at the right place on the map.
