Blame game started on Air India Flight Crash…, American media wrote a unique new story of AI-171

The plane crash that happened in Ahmedabad on June 12 was one of the biggest aviation accidents in the world. Since the initial report came out after the crash of Air India’s Boeing 787 plane, many allegations and counter-allegations have been made.
New controversies arose since the report of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) came out. Foreign media, especially American media (US media report), is writing a unique new story of AI-171 based on this report. Foreign media has started presenting a different view. Some such news has come out which government sources have described as misleading and wrong.
Wrote a unique story of Air India Flight Crash
In a recent report of foreign newspaper ‘The Wall Street Journal’, it has been claimed that the captain of the plane had deliberately turned off the fuel control switch in the engine. If sources are to be believed, these claims are not only wrong but also misleading. The conversation between the pilots in the cockpit has been presented incorrectly in this report.
What happened in the plane? Air India Flight Crash
This plane was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. It was being flown by Captain Sumit Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kunder. Who had 15638 hours and 3403 hours of flying experience respectively. As soon as the plane (air india flight 171 crash) took off, a few seconds later the fuel switch came into the cutoff position.
According to the recording of the cockpit voice recorder in the initial investigation, one pilot asks the other whether he turned off the fuel switch?. To which the other pilot replies, ‘I did not do that.’ In the initial investigation of AAIB, no concrete evidence has been found whether the switch was turned off intentionally or it was the pilot’s mistake.
What was revealed in the preliminary report by AAIB?
Let us tell you that even in the preliminary report presented by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), no evidence has been found that it was the pilot’s mistake. Also, it is not known whether turning off the switch was the main reason for the accident. If sources are to be believed, Captain Sumit Sabharwal was a very experienced pilot. His family has had a long association with aviation. His father is also retired from the aviation field. Along with this, sources have also denied the claim that Captain Sabharwal was under stress for some reason.
Was there any technical problem in the plane?
Yes, although a few hours before the accident, a pilot who brought the same plane from Delhi to Ahmedabad had mentioned a fault in the technical log. This was a fault in a system called ‘Stabilizer Position Transducer’. It controls the direction of the plane. An important clue has also been found in the investigation.
Which is being called ‘STAB POS XDCR’ error. It is related to the stabilizer position transducer. It helps in understanding the position of the front part of the plane. This error was seen by the pilot. According to experts, even if this error is not directly related to the fuel switch. But investigation is going on whether this sensor problem can affect systems like fuel management.
Ram air turbine also under investigation
However, the investigation also revealed that the fuel supply to the engines stopped immediately after the plane took off. Due to which the thrust of the plane decreased and it started falling downwards.
It was seen in the CCTV footage that the backup power source of the plane i.e. the ram air turbine had become active. This makes it clear that the power in the engines was decreasing. But investigation at the accident site found that both the fuel switches were on. Also, before the accident, both the engines were showing signs of restarting.
Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) expressed displeasure
In this case, the Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has condemned the hasty decision. The statement said that blaming anyone without a complete and transparent investigation is very irresponsible. Avoid giving statements based on incomplete information or speculation. These hasty comments harm the professional image of the pilots. It also hurts their families. The organization has appealed to them not to trust such news.
Foreign media is spreading false things!
In the Wall Street Journal report, it is being claimed that the first officer asked the captain why he turned off the fuel switch. To which the captain remained calm. Whereas the first officer panicked. This report has raised new questions in the investigation. But if government sources are to be believed, the cockpit recording is being presented in a wrong manner. These news are being spread without complete information. Due to which the real investigation may get affected.
