The deadline for exemption of marriage registration fee under Uniform Civil Code has been extended in Uttarakhand, 3,62,119 registrations have been done so far

After the implementation of Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand, married couples are getting their marriage registered in large numbers. Apart from this, people are also coming forward and registering their presence in matters like land, property, live-in relationship. The government has given relief to those who are not able to get their marriage registered yet. The government has extended the deadline for free marriage registration under UCC till January 26, 2026.
In fact, the exemption limit in free marriage registration fee has been further increased under the Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code. The deadline for exemption of Rs 250 fee for registration has been extended till January 26, 2026. That is, free marriage registration will be possible till Republic Day next year. In view of encouraging more participation of people for marriage registration under UCC, this decision has been taken by the government in public interest.
Why was the date extended? A notification was issued today by the Home Department regarding exemption of marriage registration fee. In which it has been said that under the Uniform Civil Code Rules, for such persons whose marriage has been registered before the implementation of UCC or the divorce decree has been declared or the marriage has been annulled or for such citizens whose marriage has taken place before the implementation of this code, but the marriage has not been registered, in such cases, the period of exemption of fee for marriage registration is being extended.
Along with this, it has been said that the time limit for exemption of registration fee of Rs 250 prescribed by the notification dated 6 June 2025 is being extended. Under which it has been said that with the aim of further encouraging the participation of citizens for marriage registration, it has been extended till 26 January 2026. The fee of Rs 50 (including GST) will remain applicable on citizens for taking service from CSC centers.
How many people have registered so far? Let us tell you that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) has been implemented in Uttarakhand from 27 January 2025. So far 3,62,119 registrations have been done for marriage. Whereas, 255 divorces have been registered. Talking about live-in relationships, 50 people have registered so far. Whereas, 10 people have also registered for their heirs. At the same time, the number of people registering for their will has also reached 255.
