Uttarakhand: The state has suffered losses worth hundreds of crores due to the disaster, the disaster secretary said- a team from the centre will come tomorrow to assess the losses

The central government team will visit Uttarakhand on September 8 to assess the damage caused by monsoon rains in Uttarakhand. Due to heavy rains, many districts in Uttarakhand have suffered heavy losses. There are 6 such districts in the state which have suffered the most.

The districts in Uttarakhand which have suffered heavy losses due to monsoon rains include Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pauri, Bageshwar and Nainital districts. Monsoon has wreaked havoc here.

Post Disaster Need Assessment (PDNA) action will be taken to assess the actual damage caused by the disaster in the state. For this, the central government team is coming to the state. This team will be led by R Prasanna, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

So far 574 mm of rain has been recorded in Uttarakhand in the monsoon season this year. This is much more than the rainfall in the year 2024. Vinod Suman, Secretary, Uttarakhand Disaster Management Department, said that many roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been damaged due to record rains in Uttarakhand this year.

Suman said that the state government has requested special assistance of Rs 5700 crore from the central government for this. This year, all government departments have suffered a direct loss of about Rs 1944.15 crore due to natural disasters.

The Public Works Department and public roads have suffered the maximum loss of Rs 1163.84 crore. The irrigation department has suffered a loss of about 266.65 crore, the energy department has suffered a loss of 123.17 crore. Other departments have also suffered losses worth crores.

Suman said that the head of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Rajendra Singh and Secretary Manish Bhardwaj have assured to provide all possible financial assistance to compensate for the loss suffered by the state.
