The leopard menace continues to grow in the Birokhal block of the Chaubattakhal assembly constituency in Pauri. The sighting of a leopard on the road in front of schoolchildren at around 6 a.m. on Friday morning created a stir in the entire area. Hearing the children’s screams, villagers rushed to the scene armed with sticks and began a search.
Leopard Appears in School-bound Children
Villagers reported receiving complaints of leopard sightings in the area for several days. This morning, schoolchildren spotted a leopard on the road, immediately informing Village Headman Neha Negi and the Forest Department. Upon learning of the incident, a large number of villagers, including Village Headman Anil Negi, arrived at the scene.
Forest Department Launches Search Operation
Villagers expressed their displeasure, stating that the Forest Department has yet to take any concrete action, despite the frequent leopard sightings in the area. A Forest Department team has arrived at the scene and a search operation has been launched.
An atmosphere of panic grips the area
It is reported that the presence of leopards has been reported in villages like Sindhudigad, Ghunaina, Maithanadhar, and Kedargali for the past few days, causing panic among the villagers. The villagers have demanded that the Forest Department install cages and increase patrols in the area.
