Maharashtra: A police sub-inspector raped me four times; a 28-year-old doctor in Satara narrated the entire story in a handwritten suicide note

A female doctor committed suicide in the Phaltan area of Satara district, Maharashtra. Before taking her own life, she had made serious allegations against senior officers. Her suicide has caused a stir within the health department. According to sources, the doctor had been embroiled in a dispute between the police and the health department for the past few months. It is reported that she had an altercation with police officers regarding a medical examination, which led to a departmental inquiry against her. In her suicide note, she also accused Police Sub-Inspector Gopal Badne of raping her four times. Another name in the suicide note is Prashant Bankar, the son of the deceased’s landlord. Both have been arrested. BJP leader Pankaja Munde has met with the victim’s family.
She had written some names on her hand with a pen
She had written some names on her hand and made serious allegations against them. The doctor had complained to her superiors that she was being treated unfairly and that if this continued, she would commit suicide. Unfortunately, last night she took this extreme step. In a suicide note written on her palm, the deceased doctor has alleged rape. In the suicide note, the doctor wrote, “PSI Gopal Badne raped me four times. The reason for my death is Police Inspector Gopal Badne. He raped me four times. He raped and harassed me for over five months.” The SI has been suspended following the Chief Minister’s order. Another four-page letter from the deceased doctor has surfaced. It mentions an MP and his personal secretary, but does not mention their names.
Relative reveals reason for suicide
The deceased doctor’s relative said, “My niece committed suicide suddenly on Thursday. Without telling us anything, she went to a hotel after her duty and committed suicide. She had occasionally told us that while conducting the post-mortem, the officers would harass her, asking her to change the report, and that if she faced any trouble, she would commit suicide.” She would also tell us this.
Pressure to change the post-mortem report!
Regarding the complaint, the relative said she had submitted a written complaint to the DySP, but she had yet to receive a response. She was harassed at various levels while conducting the post-mortem, repeatedly demanding that the report be changed. She couldn’t bear it, so she decided to commit suicide. She was also telling others that she was having such problems and would commit suicide, and the rest of us were unaware of it.
The SP and DSP also took no action
Another relative of the female doctor said she was her maternal uncle’s daughter and a medical officer at the Phaltan Sub-District Hospital. She had been under significant pressure from the police administration for some time, including improperly preparing post-mortem reports or issuing fitness reports without bringing patients to the hospital. She had also complained about security at the hospital, as she lived alone in the hospital area. Despite writing letters to the SP and DSP, no action was taken. She also stated that her life was in danger. She specifically wrote the names of two people on her palm. One is Police Inspector Gopal Badne and the other is Prashant Bankar. The complaint she filed earlier names Mahadik and a few other individuals. They should all be arrested and punished severely.
CM Orders Strict Action Against the Accused
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis immediately inquired with the Satara Superintendent of Police and ordered the immediate suspension of the police officers involved. The Chief Minister has ordered strict action against the accused.
Women’s Commission Takes Cognizance
The Maharashtra State Women’s Commission has taken cognizance of the Satara doctor’s suicide case. The Satara police have been directed to take strict action against the accused. A case has been registered with the Phaltan City Police under sections 64 (2) (N) and 108 of the Criminal Procedure Code. A search team has been sent to arrest the absconding accused, Gopal Badne and Prashant Bankar.
The police are investigating the real reasons behind the doctor’s suicide. However, she may have been under mental stress due to the dispute between the police and the health department and the ongoing investigation against her. But such a move by a doctor has caused a sensation.
This incident has once again highlighted the issue of mental health among healthcare workers. Healthcare workers often work under extreme stress due to workload, administrative difficulties, and numerous pressures. Medical organizations demand that the administration take such cases seriously, take strict action against the culprits, and take concrete steps to address the problems of healthcare workers.
