The viral video is reportedly from December 23rd. Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya’s husband, Girdhari Lal Sahu, had gone to Someshwar in Almora district to attend an event. There, he interacted with some young men. During the conversation, he asked some of the young men why they weren’t married yet, and then added that by their age, he would have had three or four children. Following this, he made a controversial statement, saying, “Go to Bihar… girls are available there for marriage for 20 to 25 thousand rupees.”
Girdhari Lal Sahu’s controversial statement draws criticism
After this statement, he faced widespread criticism on social media. The BJP and Girdhari Lal Sahu were trolled over the incident. This video further embarrassed the BJP, which was already in a difficult position due to the Ankita Bhandari case.
Clarification issued after the video went viral
Following the statement, Girdhari Lal Sahu has now issued a clarification. In his explanation, he stated that he had gone to an event in Dhaulagarh, where he discussed his friend’s marriage. He alleged that his statement was distorted by opponents and Congress leaders for their own benefit, calling it completely wrong and baseless.

He said that he facilitates the marriages of 101 girls in the Ramlila held in Bareilly and contributes to it according to his faith. He reiterated that his statement was distorted for political gain. He then folded his hands and apologized.
