A BJP councilor has been arrested by the police in connection with the shooting death of a 22-year-old man late last night in the Haldwani Kotwali area of ​​Nainital. The police had taken the accused councilor into custody late last night and were interrogating him. The police registered a case against the accused councilor based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s brother. The party has now expelled the accused councilor.

In the case of the shooting death of a 22-year-old man near the Gayatri Hotel in the Haldwani Kotwali area late on January 4th, the Kotwali police registered a murder case against a BJP councilor from the Rampur Road area based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s brother. In his complaint to the police, the victim, Piyush Lohani, stated that his brother, Nitin Lohani, a resident of Judge Farm, Haldwani, had gone to Gaula Paar with his friend Kamal Bhandari.

While returning home late at night, Nitin Lohani told his friend Kamal that the councilor’s son, Jai, was his friend and they should meet him. According to eyewitness Kamal Bhandari, as soon as Kamal rang the doorbell of Jai’s house, his father, Councilor Amit Bisht alias Chintu, came out onto the balcony with a gun and started hurling abuses. When Nitin and Kamal protested against the abuse, Councilor Amit became agitated. The councilor then fired, calling them “goons from Darmwal.” The bullet hit Nitin, causing his death on the spot.

Based on the complaint, the Kotwali police have registered a case against the accused BJP councilor Amit Bisht under Section 103(1) 352 of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita). The police took the accused councilor into custody late last night and interrogated him.

Accused informed the Kotwali police about the incident posing as a victim: A police officer, on condition of anonymity, said that after shooting and killing the young man, the BJP councilor also called a policeman at the Kotwali police station, posing as a victim. Amit Bisht claimed that two people had come to his house late at night and had fired shots. In retaliation, he also fired, and the young man was shot in the leg. The other person fled the scene.

BJP expels him: Meanwhile, BJP’s Nainital district president Pratap Singh Bisht issued a letter expelling the councilor from the party.
