A Bihar Excise Department inspector and two female constables left Kishanganj for Siliguri. No one knew about it. What they went there for is unknown. They thought it was a two-hour journey, that no one would find out, and they would be back quickly. They booked a car and reached Siliguri from Kishanganj. Everything was going according to plan. They reached Siliguri, but a mishap occurred on the way back. Then the Excise Department officials found out that Inspector Sangam Vidyarthi had gone to Siliguri with two female constables. Questions arose: why did Inspector Sangam Vidyarthi go to Siliguri with two female constables? Neither the inspector nor the two female constables had taken leave for this trip. If they were on duty, what were they doing in Siliguri?

The incident that occurred on the way back from Siliguri
In fact, on Monday evening, a heated argument broke out on National Highway 27 near Bagdogra (Darjeeling) between the Bihar Excise Department personnel returning from Siliguri to Kishanganj and some local people. The matter involved a dispute over overtaking on the road, which has now taken a serious turn at the departmental level. According to the information received, an inspector-level officer, two female constables, and another employee were returning from Siliguri to Kishanganj in a private vehicle. Local people stopped them on NH-27, accusing them of speeding and reckless driving. The angry villagers claimed that another vehicle narrowly avoided an accident due to the reckless driving of the departmental vehicle.

The speed of the vehicle brought trouble
The dispute escalated to such an extent that people put up barricades on the road, and a heated argument ensued between both sides. Seeing the commotion, the Bagdogra police arrived at the spot. The police calmed the situation by mediating between both parties and, for security reasons, took the Excise Department personnel to the police station. Neither side filed a written complaint, thus avoiding a legal case. However, this incident has now come under departmental investigation.

Notice Issued to Inspector and Female Constables
The Kishanganj Excise Department has taken the matter very seriously. Two main questions have arisen: why did an inspector go to Siliguri with two female constables without official permission? Was this trip related to official duties or for personal reasons? Regarding the matter, Excise Station House Officer Manish Saxena said that a detailed explanation has been sought from all the personnel involved. If it wasn’t official work, what was the inspector doing in Siliguri with two female constables in a private vehicle? Excise Station House Officer Manish Saxena stated that an explanation has been sought by Excise Superintendent Deepak Mishra. After receiving the replies, the department will take appropriate further action, which may include disciplinary action. Now, everyone’s eyes are on the personnel’s explanations and the department’s final action.
