Taking serious note of complaints about contaminated water supply in Haldwani, Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat has adopted a strict stance. Following continuous complaints, the Commissioner summoned officials from the Water Supply, Irrigation, and Jamrani Dam Project departments and conducted an on-site inspection of the filter plant located in Sheeshmahal.

During the inspection, the Commissioner expressed strong displeasure over the absence of CCTV cameras at the filter plant, criticizing the officials for their negligence. He clearly stated that any kind of laxity in a sensitive system like drinking water supply would not be tolerated. Regarding the complaints of contaminated water, the Commissioner held a meeting with senior officials of the Water Department, Irrigation Department, and the Jamrani Dam Project to gather information on the entire matter and issued necessary directives.

Ballianala Treatment and Multipurpose Jamrani Dam projects declared long-term projects

Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat stated that the Ballianala Treatment Project and the Multipurpose Jamrani Dam Project are long-term projects, on which work is to continue until 2029. Under these projects, drinking water is supplied to Haldwani city from the Gaula River. Therefore, all three departments must work in coordination to provide clean and safe drinking water to the city residents.

Instructions given to prioritize drinking water quality

During the filter plant inspection, the Commissioner instructed that the quality of drinking water be given the highest priority. He also directed that the prescribed standards in the filtration process be strictly followed, and that chlorine and alum be used according to the regulations. He further mandated that the entire water purification and testing process be properly documented to ensure transparency in the system.
