According to the Spanish rail company ADIF, the accident occurred near the Adamuz station in Cordoba. At approximately 5:40 PM, the Iryo 6189 high-speed train, traveling from Malaga to Madrid, suddenly derailed, veering onto an adjacent track. This resulted in a collision with another train traveling on that track from Madrid to Huelva.
Trains Severely Derailed
Both trains were severely derailed after the collision. Several carriages came off the tracks, while some were even thrown on top of others. The accident was so severe that heavy machinery had to be used to rescue the passengers.
21 People Dead
Relief and rescue operations began immediately after the accident. The exact number of injured is not yet officially known, and the death toll may rise.
