One distinctive trait of U.S. President Donald Trump is that no one ever knows what he might do or say at any given moment. This very style of his has once again taken the world by surprise. He recently shared a map on social media in which the name of the Strait of Hormuz has been altered; in its place, the label “Strait of Trump” appears.
Has Donald Trump Lost His Marbles? Renames Strait of Hormuz After Himself
Specifically, Donald Trump posted an image on his social media platform, Truth Social. The image depicts the maritime route near Iran—the Strait of Hormuz—but features a changed name. In fact, this image was created by one of his supporters and subsequently reposted by the President.
Trump posted this map at a time when tensions between the United States and Iran show no signs of abating. War-like conditions also persist among the Gulf nations, a situation that has, in turn, impacted oil prices.
U.S. Blockade of the Passage
Interestingly, however, this is not the first time he has jokingly bestowed his own name upon this route; on one previous occasion, he even inadvertently referred to it as the “Strait of Trump.” Yet, amidst this jesting, the undeniable truth remains that the United States has indeed imposed a blockade on this passage near Iran. The U.S. Navy has effectively sealed off Iran’s maritime routes, thereby preventing any trade from taking place through the region.
