A significant step has been taken to further strengthen disaster management in Uttarakhand. A successful trial of sending alerts via the Cell Broadcasting System was conducted in the state, enabling the delivery of immediate and precise warnings to people during times of disaster.

Conducted jointly by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and C-DOT, a trial of this modern technology was carried out across the country—including Uttarakhand—at 11:46 AM on Saturday.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and the concerned agencies for this achievement. He stated that this technology would prove to be a “boon” for a disaster-prone state like Uttarakhand.

How the System Works

Through this technology, alert messages can be sent simultaneously to mobile subscribers present in any specific area. This means that in the event of a disaster, warnings will now be received only by people in the affected zone, thereby preventing confusion and enabling timely vigilance.

Benefits for the Char Dham Yatra and Monsoon Season

The Chief Minister announced that this system would be utilized extensively during the upcoming monsoon season and the Char Dham Yatra to ensure that travelers and local residents receive accurate information in a timely manner.

State’s Initiative Bears Fruit

Uttarakhand had made persistent efforts at the central government level to expedite the implementation of this technology. During the initial trial phase, the state also provided technical feedback, which has now paved the way for a major breakthrough in its implementation.

A “Game Changer” in Disaster Management

Terming it a “game changer,” Disaster Management Minister Madan Kaushik stated that this system would make it possible to deliver timely warnings to the last person in the queue, thereby helping to minimize loss of life during disasters.

All necessary preparations for this have been completed at the state level. Overall, this new technology is set to bring about a transformative change, making disaster management in Uttarakhand more effective, rapid, and precise.
