Yuzvendra Chahal could damage more to opposition teams in T20 World Cup, Dinesh Karthik questioned the strategy of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid
Yuzvendra Chahal did not get a chance to play a single match in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia in October-November 2022. Star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was preferred over him. Team India’s strategy of not playing the leg-spinner was constantly questioned, but Team India captain Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid gave the off-spinner a chance throughout the tournament.
Now Dinesh Karthik, who was a member of Team India in the World Cup, has questioned the strategy of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid. He said that Yuzvendra Chahal would have caused more damage to the opposing teams. Ravichandran Ashwin did not end the tournament properly.
Yuzvendra Chahal could have been an interesting option
Regarding Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin, Dinesh Karthik told Cricbuzz, “All these decisions are taken by the captain and coach by trusting a player. To be honest, Ashwin had a good start to the tournament, but the end might not have been that great. But Chahal would certainly have caused a lot of damage to the opposing teams. He could have been an interesting option.”
Ravichandran Ashwin performance in T20 World Cup
Ravichandran Ashwin took 6 wickets in 5 matches at an average of 25.83 in T20 World Cup 2022. During this his economy was 8.15. The veteran off-spinner took 3 out of 6 wickets in the league match against Zimbabwe. Batting was also one of the reasons for preferring Ashwin over Chahal. Team India wanted depth in batting and this is the reason why Yuzvendra Chahal did not get a chance.
