Australian Open 2023: Sabalenka and Rybkina won the semi-finals of Women’s Singles; Bopanna-Mirza final tomorrow
The results of the semi-final matches of the women’s singles at the Australia Open have come. Elena Rybkina beat Victoria Azarenka and Arina Sabalenka to advance to Saturday’s final after defeating Magda Linett. The men’s singles semi-finals will be played on Friday.
India’s pair of Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza will take on Brazil’s Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos in the mixed doubles final on Friday itself.
Rybkina broke Azarenka’s dream
The semi-final match was played between Elena Rybkina of Kazakhstan and Victoria Azarenka of Belarus on Melbourne’s court. Rybkina won 7-6 and 6-3 in a two-set match. With this win, Rybkina reached the final and broke Azarenka’s dream of winning the Australian Open.
Azarenka won the US Open in 2007 and the French Open in 2008. In 2007, she reached the final of the Australian Open but could not win the title. In 2018, she reached the Wimbledon final. But here too could not win the title. At the same time, 23-year-old Rybkina, who defeated her, had won Wimbledon last year. She is looking to continue her fine form and win another Grand Slam.
Sabalenka also won in straight sets
Arina Sabalenka of Belarus defeated Magda Linet of Poland in the semi-finals. After winning the first set 7–6, Sabalenka won the second set 6–2. Sabalenka, 24, has reached the final of a Grand Slam for the first time. The final match will be played between her and Rybkina on Saturday.
Bopanna-Sania final on Friday
This time the Indian pair performed amazingly in the mixed doubles category of the Australian Open. Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza won all their matches to enter the finals. They will face Brazil’s Luisa Stefani and Rafael Matos in the final on Friday.
Bopanna had earlier reached the mixed doubles final of the Australian Open during 2018 as well. But, then he could not win the title. However, during 2017, he won the French Open title in mixed doubles. At the same time, Sania Mirza has won the title of Australian Open in 2009, French Open in 2012 and US Open in 2014 while playing mixed doubles. She also has 3 Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles.
Men’s singles semi-finals on Friday
Both the men’s singles semi-finals will also be played on Friday. Karen Khachanov will take on Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first match. At the same time, Novak Djokovic of Serbia will face Tommy Paul of America. Djokovic is considered the favorite to win the title.
