Bihar: Former BJP MLA arrested in connection with violence in Sasaram

Police arrested accused and former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Jawahar Prasad on Friday night in connection with violence on the occasion of Ram Navami festival in Bihar’s Rohtas district. The former MLA is accused of inciting violence.

Jawahar Prasad and Mohammad Shahnawaz Alam alias Lakhani have been arrested by the police on Friday night in connection with the communal disturbance in Sasaram city, an official of Rohtas police said on Saturday.

Here, the supporters of the former MLA allege that at the behest of the government, the police administration is unnecessarily harassing the BJP people. Describing the allegations against the former MLA as baseless, the supporters said that the former MLA has nothing to do with this violence.

The police officer further informed that a warrant had been issued from the court in this matter. So far 63 people have been arrested in this case while two people have surrendered in the court. Raids are being conducted to arrest the remaining 38 accused.

It is noteworthy that violence broke out in many districts of the state on the occasion of Ram Navami festival. People of two communities had come face to face. During this violence broke out in Sasaram as well. Section 144 was imposed in the entire area by the administration and internet service was kept closed for several days.
