Lloyd J Austin: US Defense Minister Austin will come to India; Will visit these countries including Japan next week
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J Austin III will visit Japan, Singapore, India and France next week. Austin is likely to meet Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and other leaders during his visit to India. If sources are to be believed, the United States and India want to further strengthen their relationship. Austin is also working to continue modernizing the US-India defense partnership.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will visit India in early June to discuss bilateral defense cooperation, Eli Ratner, Assistant Secretary for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs at the Department of Defense, said on Thursday. He pointed out that India and the US are now more strategically connected than ever before. Clear instructions from top political leadership to accord top priority to defense ties with India.
He also hinted at major announcements during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to the US on 22 June. He also expressed confidence in the unequivocal support of the US for joint production and development of defense systems to strengthen India’s indigenous capabilities.
This will be Austin’s second visit to India after taking charge in January 2021. Similarly, this will be his seventh visit to the Indo-Pacific. Austin will travel to Tokyo and then Singapore. He will address the Shangrila Dialogue on June 4 before leaving for New Delhi.
Austin will be the fourth US cabinet-level secretary to visit India this year. Earlier, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Commerce Minister Gina Raimondo had visited India in February and March.
