Ministry of Economic Affairs wrote a letter to the Ministry of Finance in favor of Uttarakhand, recommending to keep these projects free from ceiling
The Ministry of Economic Affairs has written a letter in favor of Uttarakhand to the Ministry of Finance in the matter of fixing ceiling for externally aided schemes of the state of Uttarakhand. The ministry has recommended exempting those projects which are in the pipeline and have received all approvals, from the ceiling. Secretary Planning R Meenakshi Sundaram has confirmed this. Here, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also said that considering the specific geographical conditions, more development plans are needed for the state. The main reason for the state government’s concern is that out of 20236 crore, projects worth 11 thousand crore have been approved under the externally aided scheme.
New problem arose due to setting the limit
The government is now waiting to get the first installment in these projects. At such a time, the Secretary (Expenditure Department) of the Union Ministry of Finance has created a new problem for Uttarakhand by setting a limit of about Rs 9900 crore for the projects under the Externally Aided Scheme.
The matter was taken up by the State Government with the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Central Government. Projects of externally aided schemes are approved after the approval of this ministry. The ministry has advocated to keep the pipeline projects of Uttarakhand out of the ambit of ceiling. The State Government is also hopeful of getting relief from the Union Finance Ministry.
