Bank note press station in-charge Umrao Singh told IANS that the Central Industrial Security Force personnel deployed at the press on Friday morning found the activities of Deputy Control Officer Manohar Verma suspicious. On searching his shoes, a bundle of two hundred notes came out.
Singh told that when Verma’s office and house were searched, a total amount of Rs 90 lakh 49 thousand was recovered. The amount recovered from Verma’s office and house consists of only Rs 500 and Rs 200 notes, which are printed in this bank note press.
Police sources said that Rs 26 lakh 49 thousand was recovered from Verma’s office, while Rs 64 lakh was recovered from his house. Verma was produced before the court on Friday, which remanded him in police custody till January 22.
During the discussion with the reporters, the accused accepted that he was posted in the control section in April. But he had started stealing notes from last three months only.
Whenever he got a chance, he used to hide the notes in his shirt and shoes. He used to trap bundles of notes in his shoes in a special way, so that there was no problem in walking and no one could doubt his movements. Umrao Singh has told that the notes recovered from the accused have some technical flaws, but they can be easily operated in the market.
