CoWin data leak claim baseless and mischievous, portal completely secure: Union Health Ministry

The Central Government has denied those reports in which it was claimed that the data of CoWin portal was leaked through Telegram. Significantly, a report on Monday claimed that sensitive personal information of several politicians, bureaucrats and individuals who signed up on CoWIN has been shared by a bot account on Telegram. After which some opposition leaders raised questions on the government. It has been said by the government that these data are old. No data has been leaked through the app.
What did the government say on the whole matter?
In the official statement issued by the government, it has been said that all such reports are without any basis and of mischievous nature. Health Ministry’s CoWin portal is completely secure with adequate safeguards for confidentiality of data. Only OTP authentication-based access to the data is provided. All steps have been taken and are being taken to ensure the security of data in the CoWIN portal.
Trinamool Congress leader had accused
According to the information, an investigation is being done by the government to find out the source of the alleged leak. The government is probing whether the data was received through CoWIN or any other application. In a series of tweets on Monday morning, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Saket Gokhale shared the screenshot of the alleged violation on his Twitter account. Personal information including addresses and Aadhaar and passport details of people were said to be shared by the bot account in the screenshot.
Gokhale had tweeted that a major data breach case of the Modi government has come to the fore. Personal details including mobile number, Aadhaar number, passport number, voter ID, details of family members etc. of all Indians who have taken the vaccine have been leaked.

NDTV cannot independently verify the allegations made by Gokhale about the alleged data leak. According to sources, the Telegram account which allegedly shared personal details from the CoWIN portal has been deactivated since Monday morning.
