Section 144 was invoked to stop the proposed ‘Mahapanchayat’ on Thursday in Purola in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand regarding the alleged incidents of ‘Love Jihad’. After the announcement of the Hindu Mahapanchayat, the announcement of the Muslim Mahapanchayat was also made. But if sources are to be believed, now the Muslim Mahapanchayat to be held on June 18 has been cancelled.

The proposed Muslim mahapanchayat in Dehradun on June 18 has been canceled after Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s assurance of action. Dehradun SSP Dilip Singh Kunwar said that after talks held at several levels and on the assurance of the Chief Minister’s action, there was an agreement in principle between the parties, after which the proposed mahapanchayat has been cancelled. To deal with the tense situation, the district administration has deployed 300 jawans of three PAC platoons in Purola along with two police jurisdictional officers and one additional superintendent of police from Dehradun in view of security.

At the same time, after this unsuccessful incident of eviction, posters were put up on the shops of Muslims. On these posters, he was threatened to leave the area. After this the Hindu Mahapanchayat was announced. This mahapanchayat was to be held on 15th June. But the district administration did not allow this and section 144 was imposed. After the announcement of the Hindu mahapanchayat, the Muslims also announced the mahapanchayat.
