Indian psychiatrist jailed for 6 years in Britain… was running child sexual abuse website, 7000 photos recovered

Dr Kabir Garg, 33, of Lewisham in south east London, was sentenced on 23 June to six years in prison by Woolwich Crown Court for his role in promoting the exploitation of children. According to the BBC report, the hearing found that he had acted as a moderator for a dark web site sharing pictures related to sexual abuse.

Adam Priestley of the National Crime Agency said in his statement that Kabir Garg was heavily involved in promoting child sexual abuse. She used the dark web to access a community of child-lovers discussing horrific crimes against children. Kabir Garg worked at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience (NIMHAS) in Bengaluru after completing his MBBS from King George’s Medical College, Lucknow, before moving to the UK. He was arrested in November last year. In January, he pleaded guilty to eight charges including child sexual abuse and making and distributing pornographic images.

The website whose moderator is 90 thousand members

Officials said Kabir Garg was one of the moderators of The Annex site, which has around 90,000 members worldwide. He was the administrator of this website. Hundreds of links to child abuse material shared daily from this website. “Sites like this have hundreds of thousands of members on the dark web, but only a few of them commit to working as staff members, who put in a lot of time without getting paid,” Priestley explains.

The UK’s National Crime Agency said in its statement that officers arrested Garg from his flat in Lewisham in November 2022. During that time Kabir Garg had logged in with his moderator account and the site was open on his laptop. The authorities recovered more than 7000 pornographic images, videos and several medical journals that he had obtained as a psychiatrist. One journal was titled, ‘A study on child sexual abuse in India.’ Special prosecutor Bethany Raine said Garg’s crime was shocking given her understanding of the psychological impact of sexual abuse on children.

Suspicion of some big racket

When Kabir Garg was arrested for allegedly being involved in child sexual abuse and thousands of photographs and videos related to child abuse were recovered from him. In the same month last year, UK authorities also arrested 34-year-old Matthew Smith. Smith allegedly paid Rs 65 lakh to two teenagers in India to sexually assault boys and share pictures over the past five years. Authorities suspect it to be part of a larger child sex racket as they have recovered thousands of videos and photographs of sexual abuse.

The special thing is that during his stay in India, Smith used to work for an orphanage and was associated with NGO. Where he managed to build a network of child sexual abuse associates and remained in contact with them even after returning to the UK. The prosecutor said that Smith used to seduce teenagers in India and teach them how to befriend minors. He would then send them photographs and videos of sexual acts that he wanted them to perform and record on video.
