Nepal’s Deputy PM and Home Minister of the country Narayan Kaji Shrestha has returned to Kathmandu after a 5-day visit to China. Nepalese deputies have started praising the PM Dragon as soon as they come from China. He said that the Chinese government is keen to implement the Belt and Road Initiative. Shrestha said that Nepal will benefit from this BRI project of China. He said that the process will be started soon to implement this project. Shrestha’s statement has come at a time when there is a war of words between the Prachanda government and the Chinese embassy regarding the BRI.
Nepal’s PM Prachanda is now going on a tour of China after India. Meanwhile, now the issue of BRI is getting hot. China claims that Pokhara airport has been built under BRI, while Nepal’s Foreign Minister has clearly declared inside the Parliament that at present not a single project is going on in the country under BRI. In this way, the Foreign Minister of Nepal has exposed the dragon by rejecting the claim of China’s top diplomat in the country. China is infuriated by this.
China has built Nepal’s Pokhara airport but so far not a single commercial flight has landed here. Nepal had given the task of building Pokhara airport to China even after India’s opposition. For this reason, India is not giving routes for international flights here. Pokhara Airport is located near the Indian border and India protested to China for security reasons. Because of this, Pokhara Airport is now proving to be the only white elephant for Nepal.
Now the Deputy PM of Nepal has urged China to start a new flight from its business center Chengdu to Pokhara and Bhairava Airport. Both these airports have been built by Nepal with the help of China. It is being told that Nepal’s Prime Minister Prachanda may now visit China at the end of this month or at the beginning of next month after his visit to India. Earlier, Prachanda had signed several important agreements during his visit to India with a 100-member delegation.
Nepal is taking careful steps on China’s BRI
China’s BRI project has come under controversy all over the world. Sri Lanka, trapped in the debt trap of BRI, has defaulted, while Pakistan is going through a terrible economic crisis. China is now pressurizing Nepal to take forward the BRI project. On the other hand, the Prachanda government taking lessons from Sri Lanka and Pakistan is taking steps in haste. This is the reason why China is angry.
