What is the stand on the Delhi ordinance bill and the opposition’s no-confidence motion? Naveen Patnaik’s party BJD has made its stand clear

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Tuesday (August 1) clarified its stand on the bill to replace the ordinance related to transfer and posting of Delhi officials and the no-confidence motion of the opposition.

Amidst presenting the central government’s bill in the Lok Sabha, BJD said that it is in its support. The party also said that it will oppose the no-confidence motion brought by the opposition alliance ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (India). In this regard, the BJD has issued a whip to the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs and asked them to be present in the house.

Talking to news agency ANI, BJD’s Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra said that party MPs have been asked to be present in Parliament by issuing a whip.

BJD has 9 MPs in Rajya Sabha. In such a situation, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will benefit from it.

What is the math in Rajya Sabha?
The BJP-led NDA has a majority in the Lok Sabha. Although the NDA and the opposition INDIA in the Rajya Sabha are in an equal position in the Rajya Sabha in terms of numbers. According to news agency PTI, the NDA has 101 MPs in the Rajya Sabha, while the 26-party Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) has the support of 100 MPs.

In such a situation, after Naveen Patnaik clears the stand of BJD, NDA will have the support of more MPs than INDIA in Rajya Sabha.

Former Uttar Pradesh CM Mayawati’s BSP, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda’s JDS and former Union Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP have one MP each in the Rajya Sabha. They haven’t clarified their stand yet.
