Chief Secretary Dr. S. S. Sandhu reviewed the progress of works being done under the Jal Jeevan Mission at the Secretariat. The Chief Secretary said that this is an important scheme launched by the Government of India which has to be completed within the stipulated time frame. He said that the availability of water should be ensured across the state, especially in remote and mountainous areas, for this we all have to work towards making this scheme successful.
The Chief Secretary said that if somewhere 55 MLD water is not available despite the completion of the scheme, then new proposals should be sent. Congratulating the districts which have done good work in this direction, the Chief Secretary said that other districts also need to work in this direction. He directed UPCL to provide electricity connections for the scheme at the earliest. He also directed to clear forest land transfer cases continuously.
The Chief Secretary also instructed to work to maintain the water sources. To recharge the water sources, he directed to continue the work of afforestation, including check dams and recharge pits. Said that maintaining water sources is essential for the long term operation of the scheme. Instructing that special emphasis should be laid on the operation and maintenance of the schemes, the Chief Secretary said that training programs should be organized to provide training of plumbers and fitters etc. to the local people. He directed to pay special attention to the quality of works. Along with increasing the manpower to complete the works within the stipulated time, the Chief Secretary also instructed the District Magistrates to review them continuously. Secretary Arvind Singh Hyanki and concerned high officials were present on the occasion.
