Miraculous well? Bathing with this water cures all the diseases of the body. People come here from every corner of India to take bath.
There is a huge well near Bharatkup village which is situated at a distance of about 15 km to the west of Chitrakoot. It is believed that Lord Rama’s brother Bharat collected water from all the holy shrines to honor Lord Rama as the king of Ayodhya. Bharata failed to convince Lord Rama to return to his kingdom and take his place as king. Then Bharat, as per the instructions of Maharishi Atri, poured that holy water into this well.
It is believed that taking bath in the water here is equivalent to taking bath in all the pilgrimage places. A temple dedicated to the family of Lord Ram is also worth seeing here. Like many other popular tourist attractions in Uttar Pradesh, it is linked to an interesting episode from the Hindu mythological epic, Ramayana. It is also considered a major pilgrimage site for Hindus. There is a religious place situated in Bharatkup, where the temples of Ram ji, Lakshman ji, Bharat ji and Shatrughan ji are built.
Bharatkup temple is also very grand
People from every corner of India come here to take bath in the water of this wonderful well. A fair is organized in Bharatkup village throughout the day. People do not leave the temple here without taking a bath in the water of Bharatkup. The Bharatkup temple built here is also very grand. The idols of Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, Bharat and Shatrughan are present in this temple. All the statues are of metal. On the basis of architecture the temple is quite ancient.
Regarding this well, Bhola Prasad, the priest of Bharat Mandir, told that the water of the well is very sacred and if you take bath in the water of this well, then all your diseases will go away. They get destroyed. People drink the water of this well and also take it with them in bottles. Bharat ji poured the holy water of all the pilgrimage places into this well. Therefore this well is known as Bharatkup.
Water collected from all the holy places
It is said that in ancient times, Bharat ji had collected this water from all the holy places of pilgrimage for the coronation of Shri Ram ji. But when Ram ji did not return to Ayodhya, on the advice of sage Atri, Bharat ji poured the water of all the holy places of pilgrimage in the well. The water of all the holy places of pilgrimage is mixed in the water of this well. Therefore this water is the most sacred and this water is sweet. This water also has powers to fight diseases. Here you get to see the temple of four brothers. The name of this temple is also the temple of four brothers.
