Shooting: Rifle shooters Arjun and Tilottama won silver in Asian Championship, also achieved Olympic quota
Indian shooters Arjun Babauta and Tillotama Sen on Friday won silver medals in the men’s and women’s 10 meter air rifle events at the ongoing Asian Championships in Changwon, Korea. With this victory, both of them also secured the quota for Paris Olympics. 24-year-old Babuta, Divyansh Singh Panwar and Hriday Hazarika won the gold medal with a score of 1892.4.
Babauta became the ninth shooter from India to secure an Olympic quota. She became the sixth rifle shooter to secure a quota for the Paris Olympics in both men’s and women’s categories. 15 year old Tilottama scored 252.3 points in the women’s final and secured the tenth quota for India. She missed the gold medal by a narrow margin. Korea’s Yunji Kwon won the gold with 252.4 points.
Ramita of India got the bronze medal. Indian shooters have secured seven quota places in rifle, two in shotgun and one in pistol. Rudraksh Patil has earlier achieved Olympic quota in 10 meter air rifle. A country can get a maximum of two quota places in an event.
