Uttarakhand: Action plan will be prepared for solid waste management in all local bodies of the state, Chief Secretary gave instructions to officials

Chief Secretary Dr. S. S. Sandhu held a meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday regarding solid waste management in all the local bodies of the state. The Chief Secretary instructed the officials to prepare an action plan for solid waste management. He said that 100 percent segregation at source should be implemented in all the local bodies of the state.

The Chief Secretary sought information about the number of garbage collection vehicles in all local bodies. He said that immediate arrangement of necessary vehicles for local bodies should be ensured. Said that big dustbins should be removed from the roads. He also called for reports of category-wise door-to-door garbage collection and segregation of garbage at source from residential buildings, commercial buildings and institutions from all ULBs. He also directed to ensure arrangements for real time monitoring and third party survey for this.

The Chief Secretary also took information regarding the sewerage treatment plant operated by the Drinking Water Corporation. He instructed to make arrangements for third party survey and real time monitoring of all STPs. The Chief Secretary also instructed the Principal Secretary Urban Development to strengthen his team regarding solid waste management. On this occasion, Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu and other senior officers were present.
