Uttarakhand: RTO did surprise inspection of city buses, boarded the bus pretending to be a passenger, gave these instructions

To know the reality of how well the city buses running on the roads of Dehradun are taking care of the facilities of the passengers and how much they are following the traffic rules, RTO (Enforcement) Shailesh Tiwari is coming from Rajpur on Thursday posing as a passenger himself. He boarded the city bus as a normal passenger.
According to media reports, RTO (Enforcement) Shailesh Tiwari reached the Parade Ground in a unique manner on Thursday to know the status of city buses operated under the public transport facilities operated in the city. After this, after getting down from the government vehicle, the RTO walked some distance on the road and reached the bus stop.
During that time, the RTO boarded the city bus coming from Rajpur side on Rajpur-Clementown route as an ordinary passenger. All the seats in the bus were full and some passengers were standing. The driver and conductor of the city bus were not even in uniform. During this, the RTO inspected the entire bus and made general inquiries to the passengers. During inspection, RTO found male passengers sitting on women reserved seats.
It is noteworthy that after talking to and inspecting the passengers traveling in the city bus, when the RTO introduced himself, the driver-conductor was shocked. The RTO’s temper rose after seeing men sitting on women reserved seats. During this, he not only taught the rules to the men sitting on the seats, but also warned the conductor and instructed him to reserve the seats for women.
RTO immediately vacated the women reserved seats in the city bus. He said that in all 25 seater buses, six seats are reserved for women, while in 26 to 35 seater buses, ten seats are reserved for women. The RTO gave strict instructions to the driver-conductor and said that if children are getting off the bus, then they should alight them carefully. The operator was told to ensure that while dropping the passengers, no vehicle is overtaking from the left side.
On Thursday, other city buses of the city were also surprise inspected by RTO Shailesh Tiwari. During this time, male passengers were found sitting on reserved women seats in other buses also. Drivers and conductors were also not found in uniform and heaps of filth were also found in some buses. RTO issued challan to nine city buses which were not following the rules.
RTO checked whether dustbins in buses, including seats reserved for disabled passengers, and presence of drivers and conductors in uniform were present in the buses. Apart from this, drivers were also tested with alcometer. During the checking, a total of 37 buses were checked, in which challans were issued on nine buses for not following the rules and the drivers not having driving licenses. During this, Transport Tax Officer Anuradha Pant was also present.
The RTO also asked the city bus operators to assist in loading and unloading the luggage of women and elderly passengers. RTO told the media that during the inspection, many buses were found following the rules. Tickets were also being given to the passengers and the drivers and conductors were in uniform and dustbins were also available in the buses.
