Uttarakhand / Haridwar: Effect of cold wave and dense fog, silence over Har Ki Pauri

The cold in Haridwar is showing no signs of decreasing. Due to cold wave and dense fog, life here has become completely disrupted. Today remained cloudy throughout the day with cold wave. Due to severe cold, there was very little traffic on the roads. The number of travelers coming from other states was also very less, due to which there was silence at Har Ki Pauri and other ghats which were bustling with travelers and bathers. Apart from this, people were seen trying to escape the cold by lighting bonfires at various places.
Cold day like situation will remain for 4 days
There will be cold day like situation in some districts of Uttarakhand from today for the next 4 days. According to the forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre, cold winds along with dense fog are expected in Dehradun, Pauri, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Haridwar districts till December 16.
Arrangements for lighting bonfires at these places-
To protect the homeless people living on the roads and ghats and travelers coming from outside from the cold, the District Emergency Operation Center has set up a bus stand, railway station, Shivmurti, Laltarau bridge, post office, Hathi bridge night shelter for men, Hathi bridge night shelter in Haridwar. Mahila, Night Shelter Alaknanda Ghat, Bhimgowda Barrier, Har Ki Pauri, Subhash Ghat, Malviya Island, Mansadevi Udan Khatol, Purusharthi Market, Chandi Ghat Square, Barber Ghat, Saptarishi, Dudhdhari Chowk Bhupatwala, Bharat Mata Mandir, Shantikunj, Press Club Haridwar, Damkothi Gate, Mansadevi Staircase Road, Chadracharya Chowk, Ranipur Haridwar, Railway Station Jwalapur, Jatwada Bridge, Harilok Colony, Sharda Nagar Railway Gate, Shankaracharya Chowk, Aryanagar Chowk, Bengali Mod Kankhal, Jhanda Chowk, Desh Rakshak Kankhal, Satighat Kankhal, Singhdwar and dozens more. Arrangements have been made to burn bonfires at various places.
Orange alert of fog in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar
District Magistrate Dhiraj Singh Garbyal has instructed the officials to light bonfires as per requirement and distribute blankets to the destitute and homeless. The Meteorological Center has issued an orange alert of fog in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar today (Saturday). There are chances of severe cold wave in both these districts. Whereas yellow alert was issued for dense fog in Dehradun, Pauri and Nainital districts. There will be cold wave conditions in some areas of these districts also.
