Amid a diplomatic row with India, Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu, during his first visit to China, in Beijing on Thursday (January 11) said he ‘firmly opposes external interference’ in the internal affairs of the Maldives and supports the island nation’s Support it in maintaining sovereignty and independence.

A joint statement was also issued after Muizzu’s talks with top Chinese leaders. It said, ‘Both sides agree to continue to strongly support each other to protect their core interests.’
