Uttarakhand: If demands are not met tomorrow, sanitation workers will go on indefinite strike

The All India Safai Mazdoor Sangh has demanded immediate implementation of the recommendations of the Dr. Lalit Mohan Ryal Committee constituted by the government regarding the demands of the sanitation workers. If the government does not announce the implementation of the recommendations by January 15, the sanitation workers will go on an indefinite strike.

In the press conference held at the Press Club on Saturday, Sangh’s state in-charge Vishal Birla said that for the last several years, the Sangh has been continuously fighting against the harassment of sanitation workers. In the year 2021, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had constituted the Dr. Lalit Mohan Ryal Committee and assured action on its recommendations, but even after the issue was raised in the Assembly, the recommendations of the committee have not been implemented till date.

Said that their demand is that by implementing the recommendations, sanitation workers should be regularized by abolishing the system like contract, committee, contract and daily labour. For a population of ten thousand, fifty sanitation workers should be appointed, sanitation workers should be promoted, and dependents of deceased should be given appointment by relaxing the rules.

IState President Chaudhary Sunil Rajour said that the union will march from the Municipal Corporation to the Secretariat on January 15 regarding the demands. A large number of sanitation workers including District President Arivand, Laxman Kumar Gehlot, Shyam Kumar were present in the press conference.
