13 people burnt to death due to fire in boarding school hostel in China, school owner in custody, police investigating

At least 13 people died in a fire in the dormitory of a primary boarding school in China’s Henan province. According to China’s state media Xinhua, local people of Yanshanpu village reported a fire at Yingkai School at 11 pm on Friday (January 19).
According to Xinhua, ‘rescuers arrived at the scene and the fire was brought under control at 11:38 pm. However, at present it is not clear how many students were among those who died. One person has been injured in this incident and is currently undergoing treatment in a local hospital. According to local media information, the school owner has been taken into custody by the police.
Fire incidents and similar hazards are common in many provinces of China due to the lack of safety standards despite being one of the most densely populated countries.
People’s anger erupted on social media
After the school fire incident, people expressed their anger on Chinese social media platforms and demanded punishment for those responsible for any safety lapse. According to news agency AFP, a person from China wrote on social media, this is very scary, 13 children from 13 families, all gone in a moment.
