Suryakumar Yadav created history, won ICC T20 Player of the Year award for the second consecutive time

India’s explosive batsman Suryakumar Yadav has been selected by the ICC as the T20 Player of the Year for the year 2023. Suryakumar has received this award for the second consecutive time. Suryakumar was also included in the T20 Team of the Year earlier and was made the captain. Surya is the first player to be named T20 Player of the Year twice consecutively. Earlier, he had also received this award for the year 2022.

Suryakumar continued his international T20 dominance in 2023 with an average of around 50 and a strike rate of over 150. Last year he led India to victory in many matches. Suryakumar has won the award by defeating Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe, Alpesh Ramazani of Uganda and Mark Chapman of New Zealand. Surya had scored 733 runs in 17 innings last year. During this period his average was 48.86 and strike rate was 155.95.

Healy Mathews won among women
Among women, this award has been won by West Indies’ Healy Mathews. Matthews became the second West Indies player to win the T20 Player of the Year award. Before her, Stephanie Taylor had received this award in 2015. Apart from these two, players from England or Australia have won this award every time.

Bas de Leede created history
Netherlands fast bowler Bas de Leede has been selected for the ICC Associate Cricketer of the Year Award. He is the second player from his country to win this award. Before him, Ryan ten Duscate had won it thrice. He won this award in 2008, 2010 and 2011.

Quinter Abel made a record
Kenya’s Quinter Abel has been named ICC Associate Player of the Year in the women’s category. She became the first Kenyan woman to win an ICC award. Kenyan men’s player Thomas Odoyo won the ICC Associate Player of the Year 2007 award. Quinter Abell is the only Associate player (men/women) to score more than 1000 runs as well as take more than 50 wickets in T20 Internationals.
