The corruption report of 180 countries of Transparency International, an organization that provides information about the status of corruption in various countries, was released on Tuesday. According to the report, corruption has increased in India in 2023 as compared to 2022. The report of the organization states that India has come to 93rd place in Corruption Perception Index in 2023, whereas a year ago in 2022 it was at 85th place. In this ranking of 180 countries, the country at number 1 has the least amount of corruption, while the country at number 180 has the most corruption.
What is the situation of India’s neighboring countries?
Talking about India’s neighboring countries, Bhutan is at 26th place and has the least corruption in South Asia. China is at 76th place in this list and here too corruption has increased in 2023 as compared to 2022. Sri Lanka, another neighboring country of India, is at number 115 in the list, which means that there is more corruption here than India. Nepal is at number 108 in the list, Pakistan is at number 133, Bangladesh is at number 149 while Afghanistan is at number 162. Thus, except Bhutan and China, most of the neighboring countries have more corruption than India.
Denmark has the least corruption
If we talk about the countries with the least corruption, Denmark is at number one. After this, Finland is at second, New Zealand at third, Norway at fourth and Singapore at fifth. Singapore is the only Asian country which is included in the top 10 in this list. Whereas, if we talk about the top 20, apart from Singapore, there are only Hong Kong and Japan from Asia. Somalia has the highest level of corruption in the world and this country is ranked 180th in the list. Apart from Somalia, Venezuela, Syria, South Sudan, Yemen and North Korea are among the most corrupt countries in the world.
