There is a big massacre in the African country Sudan. Armed criminals have gunned down not just one but 52 people. This horrific accident has happened in Abyei, Sudan. Those killed included 52 women, children and 2 UN peacekeepers. Ethnic violence is seen every day in Sudan. There have been repeated clashes between rival factions in Abyei, where significant tax revenue is collected from cross-border trade.
Armed people attacked the village
According to Reuters, Abyei’s Information Minister Bulis Koch said that armed men from South Sudan’s Warrap state attacked the village on Saturday. The reason why this attack was carried out is not yet clear. Actually, Abyei is an oil rich area. It is jointly administered by South Sudan and Sudan. Both countries lay claim to it.
Curfew imposed in the area
It is being told that 52 local people including women, children and police officers were killed in this attack. Apart from this, 64 people have been injured. Due to this, curfew has been imposed in the area. The United Nations Interim Protection Force in Abyei said on Sunday that a Ghanaian peacekeeper with the UN force in Abyei was killed in an attack on its base in the city of Agok amid violence.
