Ritu Bahri becomes the first woman Chief Justice of Uttarakhand HC, Governor Gurmeet Singh administered the oath.

Ritu Bahri took oath as the Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court today. Governor Lt. Gurmeet Singh administered the oath of office as Chief Justice at Dehradun Raj Bhavan. Many dignitaries of the state including Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the swearing-in ceremony of the Chief Justice.

The process of women getting places in the highest positions in Uttarakhand is continuing. While Radha Raturi has been given the place as the boss of bureaucracy in the state, Ritu Khanduri is also handling the responsibility as the Assembly Speaker in Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, Ritu Bahri has also taken oath on the post of Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court. Ritu Bahri took oath as Chief Justice during the swearing-in ceremony at Dehradun Raj Bhavan. Governor Lt. Gurmeet Singh administered the oath of office as Chief Justice.

During this, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and some members of his cabinet along with many other dignitaries attended the swearing-in ceremony. Actually, Ritu Bahri was holding the responsibility as a justice in Haryana and Chandigarh High Court. The appointment of a permanent Chief Justice to this post was pending since the retirement of Uttarakhand High Court Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi on October 26. After this, senior judge Manoj Kumar Tiwari was assuming the responsibility as the acting Chief Justice. After the approval of the President, notification was issued regarding the appointment of Ritu Bahri to the post of Chief Justice.

Earlier, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge Ritu Bahri as the Chief Justice of Nainital High Court. Ritu Bahri was born in Punjab in 1962 and did her schooling in Chandigarh. Apart from this, he has obtained a law degree from Punjab University itself. Starting law practice in Punjab and Haryana High Court, he was later appointed judge of Punjab Haryana High Court. Ritu Bahri’s father is also a judge in Punjab Haryana High Court.
