Uttarakhand: News of death of six including father and son in Haldwani violence, hundreds of policemen and corporation workers and local people also injured, curfew continues, schools closed

Local people attacked the police and administration team that had gone to demolish the illegal madrasa and religious place in Malik’s garden in Banbhulpura area of Haldwani. City Magistrate Richa Singh, Ramnagar Kotwal and more than 300 policemen and corporation workers were injured in stone pelting. The miscreants also burnt Banbhulpura police station. More than 70 vehicles including police jeep, JCB, fire engine and two-wheelers were burnt. When the situation did not come under control even after firing tear gas shells and lathi charge, the officers were the first to run away from the spot to save their lives. The police and corporation team somehow left from there. The administration has given orders to shoot the miscreants in the legs on sight. Six people, including a father and son, died due to bullet injuries. Curfew has been imposed in the city.

Under police protection, the Municipal Corporation team arrived at around 4 pm on Thursday evening to demolish the illegal madrasa and religious place built in Malik’s garden. As soon as the JCB moved towards the illegal religious place, the local people got enraged and pelted stones. The police and corporation teams were surrounded from all three sides. Amidst stone pelting, people broke the JCB and set fire to many vehicles including the police jeep.

Around 150 policemen were injured due to stone pelting. The police also resorted to lathicharge but it was becoming difficult for the policemen amid stone pelting from the rooftops. To prevent the police from coming inside, the miscreants blocked the road by burning tires in front of the streets. The police was dealing with the miscreants, when on the other hand some people burnt down the Banbhulpura police station. The police and corporation teams, left leaderless after the officers left the place, somehow managed to escape.

- At 3:00, teams started gathering near Banbhulpura police station to remove the encroachment.
- At 4:23 the team left with the police force.
- At 4:30 the team reached Malik’s garden.
- At 4:40 people started gathering at the encroachment site.
- At 4:42 people started protesting.
- At 4:44 people started removing the barricades put up by the police.
- At 4:51 miscreants stopped the JCB.
- At 4:55 the commotion started and stone pelting took place.
- Started encroachment demolition action at 5:17 pm.
- At 5:20 people broke the JCB.
- At 5:24 the police fired tear gas shells at the protesters.
- At 5:35 the miscreants set vehicles on fire.
- Policemen were injured at 5:54.
- At 6:30 the miscreants torched the police station.
- At 7:00 the injured policemen were sent to the hospital.
- At 7:30 the CM sat down and ordered the miscreants to be shot.
- Curfew order was issued in the city at 7:48.
- At 7:55 more forces from Udham Singh Nagar reached Haldwani.

Police fired several rounds late night
Let us tell you that, late in the evening, amid the imposition of curfew in the entire city and the order to shoot at sight the miscreants, the police fired more than 350 rounds in Banbhulpura. In this, two people were admitted to Sushila Tiwari Hospital after being shot. In this, one youth died while being brought to the hospital while the other died during treatment. Late night, four other people, including a father and son, who were admitted to different hospitals, also died.
Internet service stopped at 10 pm
After the fire in Banbhulpura, internet service was also stopped in Haldwani around 10 pm. The police administration has taken this step as a precautionary measure amid rumors spreading across the country. There were reports of some people wrongly posting on this incident by linking it to UCC.
Shutters fell down, markets closed
As soon as the news of the uproar in Banbhulpura came, there was chaos in the market also. Traders had started closing their establishments. Haldwani market was almost closed before it got dark.
Schools will remain closed in Haldwani today
In view of the uproar in Banbhulpura, Anganwadi centers and all schools from classes 1 to 12 will remain closed in Haldwani on Friday. Block Education Officer Harendra Mishra said that in view of the uproar in Vanbhulpura, all government and private schools, Anganwadi centers will remain closed on Friday. Orders have been issued in this regard. The examinations of Uttarakhand Open University and MBPG College have also been cancelled.
