Uttarakhand: ED’s action on Harak Singh, Congress said – BJP is trying to suppress the opposition

During the special session in the Uttarakhand Assembly, the government is discussing the Uniform Civil Code with the opposition. Today is the third day of the session. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Premchand Aggarwal mentioned the UCC law in detail. Opposition MLAs presented their views regarding the law and discussed the merits and demerits of the law. On one hand, the opposition in the House kept trying to corner the government regarding UCC, on the other hand, ED raid was going on at the house of senior Congress leader and former minister Harak Singh Rawat, just 200 steps away from the Assembly.

At around 7 am on Wednesday morning, the ED team arrived to raid several places including Harak Singh Rawat’s Defense Colony residence in Dehradun. The ED officials who arrived in three vehicles neither allowed anyone to come out of the house nor allowed anyone to meet them during the raid. Everything happened in such a hurry that no one even got a chance to recover. Along with Harak Singh Rawat, the house of former IFS officer Kishan Chand in Haridwar and the premises of IFS officer Sushant Patnaik were also raided. There are said to be around 35 ED officers in different teams who are carrying out the raids.

Even when the House proceedings started at 11 am, the Congress MLAs were not aware of the ED raid on Harak Singh Rawat’s residence. When the information was received, several Congress MLAs, including Assembly Deputy Leader of Opposition Bhuvan Chandra Kapri, reached the residence of Harak Singh Rawat. But no one was allowed to enter the residence.

Bhuvan Kapri said that this raid is not being conducted on Harak Singh Rawat but to suppress the entire opposition. The central government and the state government want that no one should raise voice against them and similar raids are being conducted against whoever is doing so. Kapri said, BJP wants to remain in power alone in the country. No one should oppose him. At the same time, Pritam Singh has called this raid a murder of democracy.
