Uttarakhand: BJP’s Saurabh Thapliyal became the mayor of Dehradun, defeating Congress’s Virendra Pokhriyal by more than 1 lakh votes

After the slow counting of votes in Dehradun Municipal Corporation, finally the result for the post of Mayor was declared after 27 hours. Saurabh Thapliyal of Bharatiya Janata Party has achieved the biggest victory in the history of Dehradun Municipal Corporation. The special thing is that BJP has also succeeded in forming the board on its own strength in the Municipal Corporation.
The counting of votes in Dehradun Municipal Corporation has been completed. Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Saurabh Thapliyal has won the post of Mayor by 105095 votes. This is the biggest victory in the Municipal Corporation so far. Congress’s Virendra Pokhriyal was in second place. The biggest thing is that BJP has also succeeded in winning 64 out of 100 wards in the Municipal Corporation.
Saurabh Thapliyal got 241778 votes in Dehradun Municipal Corporation, while Virendra Singh Pokhriyal, who was in second place, could get only 136483 votes. The special thing is that apart from this, the security deposit of all the other eight candidates contesting the election was forfeited. Many independents including Aam Aadmi Party and UKD were in the fray for the post of Mayor in Dehradun Municipal Corporation.
Bharatiya Janata Party was successful in forming a board with full majority in 100 wards of Dehradun Municipal Corporation. 64 councillors of BJP have reached the Municipal Corporation by winning. Congress was at second place with 23 councillors winning, while 13 councillors have become independents. 415001 votes were cast in Dehradun Municipal Corporation yesterday. In which 2924 people also put their stamp on NOTA.
