Thieves took away Padma Bhushan medal, 5 arrested while trying to sell it to jeweler
Five people have been arrested in Delhi for stealing Padma Bhushan medal. Delhi Police said on Wednesday that five people, including a woman, have been arrested in the case of theft of Padma Bhushan medal of former Panjab University Vice-Chancellor GC Chatterjee. A senior police officer said the accused went to Dalip, a jeweler, to sell the medal on Tuesday. Dalip did not buy the medal and informed the police.
Had come to sell Padma Bhushan medal to jeweler
Giving this information on Wednesday, Delhi Police said that the accused have been identified as Shravan Kumar (33), Hari Singh (45), Rinki Devi (40), Ved Prakash (39) and Prashant Biswas (49). All these accused are residents of Madanpur Khadar. According to police, Biswas is a jeweler who had allegedly purchased the medal. Police said that before selling the medal to Biswas, the accused had gone to a jeweler named Dalip. Dalip refused to buy the Padma Bhushan medal and also informed the police. During this time the accused left from there. After this the police came into action.
Accused caught with the help of CCTV footage
As soon as information about the case was received, a team of Kalindi Kunj police station in-charge and other personnel was formed under the supervision of Sarita Vihar Deputy Commissioner of Police to arrest the accused persons. In this case, CCTV footage of the area was examined. The police officer said that after the CCTV footage, the accused were identified as Hari Singh, Rinki Devi and Prakash Biswas. According to the police, interrogation revealed that the medal was stolen by Shravan Kumar, a resident of Saket and medical assistant to Samaresh Chatterjee, grandson of G.C. Chatterjee.
The police, showing promptness in this matter, have arrested these five accused and have also recovered the Padma Bhushan medal. Police said that there were two golden bulges on both sides of this medal.
