Big blow to Congress in Himachal Pradesh, 6 rebel Congress MLAs join BJP

Congress has suffered a big setback in Himachal Pradesh. All 6 rebel Congress MLAs have joined BJP. Congress MLAs Sudhir Verma, Ravi Thakurs Rajendra Rana, Chaitanya Sharma, Devendra Bhutto and Inder Dutt Lakhanpal have joined BJP. Apart from this, three independent MLAs have also joined BJP.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur was present
Rebel Congress MLAs accepted membership of BJP in the presence of Union Minister Anurag Thakur. Himachal Pradesh Speaker Kuldeep Singh had declared all the 6 MLAs who rebelled in the Rajya Sabha elections as non-commissioned. Action was taken against all these MLAs under anti-defection law.

Meanwhile, the clouds of crisis over the Congress government have also deepened. There are 68 assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh and 35 seats are required for majority. Congress now has 34 MLAs, so its number is less than the majority.

Voting between Abhishek and Harsh Mahajan
There were Rajya Sabha elections on one seat in Himachal Pradesh and Congress had fielded senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi from here. Here his victory was considered certain because Congress had 40 MLAs and BJP had 25 MLAs. BJP had made Harsh Mahajan its candidate from here but 6 Congress MLAs did cross voting and voted in favor of BJP. The BJP candidate won in this.

Decision through slip, Harsh Mahajan’s victory
BJP needed a total of 10 voters. 6 Congress MLAs voted in favor of BJP and 3 independent MLAs voted for BJP. Due to this, both Congress and BJP candidates got 34-34 votes. Then the decision was taken through lots and Harsh Mahajan won.

After the cross voting of Congress MLAs, the Congress government is in trouble and will have to prove its majority. Senior BJP leader and former CM Jairam Thakur has said that on June 4, not only will BJP government be formed in the country, but BJP government will also be formed in Himachal.
