India showed amazing diplomacy in UN, supported Palestine on one resolution and made friendship with Israel on another

India has shown amazing diplomacy in the United Nations. On one hand, India supported Palestine and on the other hand it also maintained its friendship with Israel.

In fact, two resolutions were passed in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), one of which was related to immediately stopping the Israeli military action in the Gaza Strip, ending the siege there and stopping the supply of weapons to Israel. It was passed but India stayed away from it.

India distanced itself from the proposal
On the resolution presented on Friday, the Council has expressed concern and condemned the incidents of human rights violations by the Israeli army in Gaza. In the 47-member Council, 28 countries voted in support of the resolution while six voted against it, with 13 member countries abstaining. India abstained from the resolution along with France, Japan, Romania and others while the US, Germany, Bulgaria and Argentina were among the major countries opposing the resolution.

These countries were in favor of ceasefire
Among the countries that voted in favor of the ceasefire were Russia, China, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Kuwait, Maldives, Qatar, South Africa, UAE and Vietnam. The Israeli ambassador boycotted the session in protest against the resolution.

India is in favor of an independent Palestinian state
In another resolution presented in the Human Rights Council, India voted in favor of the resolution related to the establishment of an independent country for the Palestinians and their right to self-determination. 42 member countries including India voted in support of this resolution while America and Paraguay voted against it.

Albania, Argentina and Cameroon abstained from voting. It is noteworthy that India has an old policy of supporting the formation of an independent Palestinian state, while the Modi government is strengthening relations with Israel and is maintaining the country’s policy related to Palestine.
