Scientists of IIT Roorkee discovered ‘Nagraj Vasuki’! Anaconda also failed in front of them, length equal to bus

आईआईटी रुड़की के वैज्ञानिकों ने खोज निकाले 'नागराज वासुकी'! इनके आगे एनाकोंडा भी फेल, बस के बराबर लंबाई - Nirbhik Nazar

Scientists of IIT Roorkee have made a big discovery. The scientists who made the discovery have claimed that they have found the fossil of a snake, which can be called the largest snake on earth. It lived in the area of present-day Gujarat during the Middle Eocene period about 47 million years ago. Scientists have named this structure of the snake as Vasuki Indicus.

Scientists claim

In fact, in a remarkable discovery by IIT Roorkee Professor Sunil Bajpai and post-doctoral fellow Debjit Dutta, an ancient species of snake has been unveiled, which is considered to be the largest snake ever found on Earth. It is being claimed that this snake belonged to the extinct Madsoidae snake family. It represented a unique snake lineage of India. This unprecedented discovery has joined the institute’s growing list of important fossil discoveries.

Just as long as a snake

Professor Sunil Bajpai and Debjit Dutta said that the discovery of Vasuki Indicus is really surprising. Imagine a snake that can be as long as a school bus, which can be between 11 and 15 meters in length. The fossils of this ancient giant snake were found in the Panandro lignite mine in Kutch, Gujarat. Of these fossils, 27 vertebrae (vertebrae) were exceptionally well preserved, some of which were found joined together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.

Titanoboa-sized Vasuki Indicus!

At the same time, when scientists looked at these vertebrae (spine), they noticed something interesting about their size and shape. They suggest that the body of Vasuki Indicus was wide and cylindrical, which would indicate a strong and powerful build. Is. Regarding Vasuki Indicus, scientists claim that its size is equal to that of Titanoboa snake. Titanoboa snake is considered to be the longest snake on earth. Let us tell you that Titanoboa snake is also called monster snake.

Secret hunter vasuki indicus

Researchers at IIT Roorkee believe that Vasuki Indicus was a stealthy hunter, who, like today’s anaconda, moved slowly on the ground and waited for the right moment to attack its prey.

Researchers believe that the large size of Vasuki indicus may have made it a formidable predator in ancient ecosystems. Vasuki Indicus is unique and is named after Vasuki, who is often depicted around the neck of the Hindu god Shiva. The name not only reflects its Indian roots but also hints at the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Vasuki Indicus Member of the Madsoideae Family

The discovery of Vasuki indicus sheds new light on the biodiversity and evolution of snakes during the Eocene period. It also provides information about the geographical distribution of the Madsoidae family, which was present in Africa, Europe and India for about 100 million years.

Evolutionary history of snakes

Professor Sunil Bajpai, Department of Geology, IIT Roorkee, said that this discovery is important not only for understanding the ancient ecosystem of India, but also for knowing the evolutionary history of snakes on the Indian subcontinent. It underlines the importance of preserving our natural history and highlights the role of research in uncovering the secrets of our past.

While praising this discovery, IIT Roorkee Director Professor KK Pant said that he is very proud of this remarkable discovery of Professor Sunil Bajpayee and his team. The unveiling of Vasuki Indicus underlines IIT Roorkee’s commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and our continued pursuit of excellence in research.

The discovery by Professor Sunil Bajpai and his team follows a recent wave of important fossil discoveries in India. IIT Roorkee’s continued contribution to paleontology research has strengthened India’s prominence as a hotspot for important discoveries. The discovery of Vasuki Indicus adds to the growing list of unprecedented fossil discoveries at IIT Roorkee.
